36 hours of Street Photography
in the wild city of Hong Kong

When it comes to street photography locations, Hong Kong has to be one of my highlights (outside of London) and always a city I’d dreamt of exploring. During plans to travel over to Cambodia in South East Asia, I finally found my chance to stop over in this wild, neon filled city to capture street photography.

Capturing Hong Kong with the Fuji XT2

I’d always wanted to visit this great city and to experience the massive mix of culture, great food and vast structures that loom over the city in all their glory. I travelled out with my Fuji XT2 which I think (at the time of writing this article) is a great piece of equipment for Street photography – it’s light, quick to focus and great in most conditions, including low light.

Exploring Kowloon

We started out our Hong Kong Street Photography expedition in Kowloon and ventured on foot as much as possible. Having only 36 hours in the city meant we had quite a lot to fit in to satisfy my curiosity, but this didn’t deter us from taking our time to take it all in and most importantly look-up, because Hong Kong is one TALL city.

The Big Buddha & Po Lin Monastery

Travelling over to The Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery was an incredible experience and certainly one of my favourite experiences of the city. Although the queues are a draining ordeal, it’s worth it for the amazing views. I don’t class myself as a landscape photographer, and stick to street photography and portrait photography for the most part. But when it came to visiting Po Lin, I couldn’t help capturing a few landscapes during the mild sunset.

Street Photography in Hong Kong

Hong Kong  is a well oiled machine that welcomes people to travel all over the city to eat, drink and explore. Between every cityscape there’s a story to capture and connections to be made and in reality, 36 hours was never going to be enough to see this all. But I’ll be back no doubt, ready to take in the bold beauty of this city as soon as I get the chance.
